Who we are

We’re a women’s unaccompanied four-part harmony chorus based in Derbyshire.

We currently have around 50 members ranging in ages from 25 to 70+ and rehearse every Thursday evening at St Elizabeth's School, Belper.

Musical Director – Zac Booles

Zac found barbershop at the age of sixteen with the Grand Central Chorus. Learning from barbershop stalwarts like Rob Barber and John Grant, he went on to direct Grand Central for 10 years, stepping down in 2020. During his time with Grand Central, Zac led them to multiple bronze and silver medals, whilst also winning a bronze quartet medal with “This Way Up” (2007) and two British Male Quartet golds with “Monkey Magic” (2008) and “The Locksmiths” (2018).

Zac has also had the pleasure of coaching and arranging music for many a-capella groups all over the UK.

Zac and his wife, Claire, took over the musical leadership of Ignite UK in 2020.

Assistant Musical Director – Claire Booles

Claire has been singing barbershop music since 2007, singing with a local chorus, DaleDiva from 2007 to 2015 and serving on the music team throughout this time. Claire is a founder member of Ignite UK and has been both baritone and lead section leader. Claire is also the baritone of “Nightfall”, the 2019 Sweet Adelines Region 31 champion quartet and LABBS 2019 bronze medal quartet.

Ignite UK has a Management Board and active Music Team to support its members and directors.
